Favouring the left half of the fairway takes out of bounds on the rightout of play and sets up the easier second shot into the green. The flagpole in the distance forms a straight line between the centre of the green and the centre of the fairway for you to get a line to the green from outof the valley. The uphill second plays longer than the yardage suggests.
